The Newsletter 'Following up on the New Media in Israel' is monitoring what is written and published in the new media space in the Israeli public sphere. The newsletter sheds light on the most important issues that arise and how to interact with them, and focuses on the statements and testaments of politicians, journalists and activists in the Israeli sphere from left to right. In addition, the Newsletter monitors manifestations of racism in Israeli society, which has been increasing recently.
The issue of the Newsletter covers the period of 22-24 April 2018:
This issue of the Newsletter covers the period 10-14 April 2018. Israeli social media networks were taken up by three issues. It should be noted that Israeli social media platform did not elaborate on the attack on Syria. The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had already requested that ministers keep silent about the attack. Usually, it is ministers who stir the social media in Israel. Additionally, the attack was launched at dawn on Friday, during the Shabbat.
This issue of the Newsletter covers the period 4-8 April 2018. Israeli social media networks were taken up by two issues. Firstly, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu launched an attack on the New Israel Fund. Secondly, the Israeli Information Centre for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories (B’Tselem) urged soldiers to refuse to fire at unarmed Palestinian protestors.
This report expands on two key events within the present Israeli society and discourse between 8.4.2018 and 10.4.2018:
1. The circulation of a video on social media depicting an Israeli soldier celebrating the execution of a young Palestinian man by sniper near the border of the Gaza Strip. Pro-Israeli groups and individuals quickly rose to the soldier’s defense, dubbing the Palestinian a ‘terrorist,’ while and despite confirmed reports that the young man was on a football (soccer) field during a match.
