In spite of all attempts of escape and evasion, Nakba finds its own way to the Israeli consciousness. When doors are shut, Nakba gets in through unofficial windows and settles in the Israeli public consciousness. The issue is one of quantitative, then qualitative, accumulation.
I finally heard, albeit reluctantly, parts of the speech delivered by the Israeli Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein (Likud): “and [ye shall] proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof”. This was one of the verses I heard him quote many times in his speech at the official, nationalist right wing celebration, the so-called Fifty Years of Settlement in Judea and Samaria.
