(For a long time, the Israeli right wing has sought to propose this bill with a view to making decisions of the Israeli Central Elections Commission (ICEC) effective. However, the bill removes the High Court’s power to annual decisions of the ICEC. According to the latest elections, the ICEC consists of party representatives.)
Initiator: Oded Forer and others from the Yisrael Beiteinu (Israel Our Home) Party
Bill No. 4495/20/F
MK Oded Forer and others from the Yisrael Beiteinu Party proposed this bill, which provides for annulling the High Court’s power to revoke the ICEC decisions on refusal of the nomination of persons and parties.
Over the past years, the bill has been proposed on many occasions. It was submitted this year as well by the same parliamentary bloc.
The ICEC has the same partisan composition of the Knesset, which ends its term in preparation for general elections. The fact that the ICEC is chaired by a High Court judge means that the Commission is a political body. Over the past years, the ICEC has been dominated by the extreme right wing, which seeks to determine the identity of competing parties.
